Rojer Halfgrip, son of Kally and Jessum Inn of Riverbridge, born 315 AR, is one of the POV characters in The Painted Man and The Desert Spear.

Biography - Events of The Painted Man

Early Life

Rojer is originally from Riverbridge , his parents were Kally and Jessum , who owned an inn. One night a messenger named Geral and the Duke's Herald Arrick took refuge. Whilst dancing  in response to Arrick's fiddle playing, corelings invaded the inn, the wards of the inn had been neglected by the local warder as well as those of the rest of the village as a result the stopped working. Jessum and Geral attempted to hold them off but it was futile. During the commotion, Arrick ran for the bolthole with his "bag of marvals" ( a bag containing a Jongleur's belongings) and Kally begged him to take Rojer, shoving him into his arms While she was running with him a flame demon had bitten his arm cutting two fingers off and some of his parm.

While Riverbridge burned Arrick decided the only chance to survie would be to get to his(Jessums) circle while Rojer clung to him Arrick attemped to shake him off to no effect. At the circle Arrick found Rojer wound both looked around to see the demons dancing and feeding on all of the villages. Arrick realized that Rojers homes was not just gone but destoryed he sang a lullaby to put him to sleep and distract him from what was happening. 

During an unknow period of time Rojer turned the hair of his mother into a tailsman(a doll with her hair) and Arrick took him in as his apprentance.

Personality

Basic Personality - He is a kind if cowardly person at times, while not known for his bravery he is willing to stand in front of a demon for his friends or loved ones when the time calls for it.He generly uses humor to mask his pain and any thoughts he does not want to share. He holds a oath in high regard and beleives that it mussures the man how holds it. He has deep pain and a hatred for himself, blaming himself for all the pain caused to those around him. 

Painted Man - Rojer is a in his childhood with his master a quite and shy child scared of the dark and keeping to himself most of the time. He was also secretly a lonely boy as he knew that the injury to his hand made him an outsider, he was also very responsible keeping his master form getting kick out the room they were staying and reminding him or waking him when they need to go out to preform.

As he grew up on the road with only himself to look after he took on many of Arrick's mannerisms and lost much of his responsibility, taking women whenever they offered themself unmarried or not. 

Desert Spear - Despite what Rojer's master did to him, he still loved Arrick like a father. He wished that he hated Arrick but couldn't bring himself to do it.
