Duke Rhinebeck III was the ruling Duke of Fort Angiers, and brother to Prince Thamos. Rhinebeck is portrayed as one who enjoys the pleasures of court life: drinking, eating, and whoring to excess. Rhinebeck seems greedy, in both taxing his people, and trading with other Free Cities. It is his greed to tax Riverbridge which ultimately led to Rojer Inn's parents being killed by Demons, as the local warder wished to impress the Duke's herald.

“There’s not much to know,” Rojer said. “Rhinebeck spends his hours doing three things: counting money, drinking wine, and bedding younger and younger brides, hoping one of them will bear him an heir.”[1]

The Duke's self-interest is shown further when he refuses to house any refugees following the Krasian threat of invasion.

On a outing to hunt he and his men try to kill Lord Thamos, making it look like an accident, after he proposed to go for "a real hunt", demons. Thamos proposed the hunt after being puplicly ridiculed by Rhinebeck, for missing his shots on Rockbirds, Thamos however acknowledged hos kills as the duke's saving his face.

The Duke appears to be infertile, confirmed by Herb Gatherer Leesha Paper and Weed Gatherers. However, popular belief or personal denial lead Rhinebeck to marry many women, in succession, in hope to father a male heir. This only serves to further aggrivate the Duke. Leesha Paper is tasked investigating the matter by Iraine. Amanvhas dice reveal that the duke is being poisoned. She uses the knowledge trying to bargain for her imprisoned husband Roger Inn. Leesha get's a sample from one of Misstress Girls. It appears as the dice were wrong. Later Leesha aquieres another sample from one of her trusted. After looking at it under her microscope ahe concludes, the dice were indeed right. It's then revealed Mistress was poisoning the duke as revenge because of his treatment of Roger. Which she loved like a son.

He later get's killed by a Dharma, who was acting as a messenger, delivering them a surrender proposal. Whole bringing Lord Thamos' and Samon's heads He orders to kill the Dharma for his insolence. Waiting for a opportunity to attack the Dharma attacks and kill him and his brother Michael.
